Pressure 1 - 57 bar (850psi)
Temperature Up to 878°F (470°C)
Fuel Gas, #2, #6 Oil, Marine Oil/Gas
Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery Saturated and Superheated Steam and Hot Water
Exhaust Gas Flow of 4 t/h to 180 t/h
Exhaust Gas Inlet Temp of 250°C to 560°C
Heat Recovery of 0.1 to 4 MW
Steam output of up to 6.5 t/h
Exhaust Boiler System
Combination System
Low Emissions Systems
• Flue Gas Re-circulation – Emissions on Gas NOx to 30 ppm CO to 200 ppm
• Bluff Body – Emissions on Gas
NOx to 12 ppm – units < 500 BHP NOx to 20 ppm – units > 500 BHP CO to 50 ppm
• Fiber Metal Burner – Emissions on Gas NOx to 9 ppm CO to 20 ppm
Super Economizer
• Clayton SE Steam Generator -
Stack Temperature is 80°-100°F below steam temperature.
• Firetube Boiler -
Stack temperature is 80°-100° F over steam temperature. • 40° F of stack temperature equals 1% of fuel to steam efficiency • Clayton Steam Generator is 4-5% inherently more fuel efficient.

The Clayton Advantage
Advantages that result in reduced cost and increased operating flexibility 10
1. Safety
The unique Clayton design is inherently safe with no possibility of a hazardous steam explosion
2. Lower Weight And Space Requirements
300hp Boiler Comparison
Footprint Area Clayton – 69 sq ft Firetube – 157 sq ft
Filled Weight Clayton – 9,300lbs Firetube – 25,000lbs
• Means Lower Installed Cost • More space and weight for other equipment
3. Fast Start-Up
Cold Start to Full Output 15 to 20 Minutes for Clayton Vs. 45 Minutes for Firetube Boilers
4. Fast Response to Load Swings
5. No level control
Boiler is of forced flow design No need for level control which can affect performance in dynamic situations
6. Higher Efficiency
7. Reduced Blowdown
Clayton • Blowdown loss of 0.14% • TDS of 8500 Firetube Boilers • Blowdown loss of 5.7% • TDS of 3500
Lower Blowdown results in Higher Efficiencies
8. High Quality Steam
• 99.5% Steam Quality • More useful heat to the process • Less fouling of piping and devices • More consistent steam quality • Eliminates carryover
9. Packaged Systems
Reduced Installation Time and Cost
10. PLC and Linkageless Controls
• Remote Monitoring and Control • Tie into Plant Control Systems • Better control across the operating range • Improved efficiency • Reduced emissions and maintenance

Feedwater Systems
• Atmospheric Deaerator (Hotwell)
• Pressurized Deaerator
• Semi-closed Receiver
• Trap Separator Arrangement
29
Hotwell Feedwater System
CHARACTERISTICS • Water maintained at 190 – 200 Degrees F • Feedwater at atmospheric pressure • Reduces oxygen to 1 – 2 ppm ADVANTAGES • Lowest initial cost • Easiest system to maintain • Quick start-up and response to load changes
DISADVANTAGES • Relatively high chemical use – lowest natural oxygen removal
Deaerator Feedwater System
CHARACTERISTICS • Water maintained at 225 – 235 Degrees F • Feedwater maintained at 5 – 7 PSIG (typically) • Reduces oxygen to 7 – 10 ppb
• Requires PRV and BPR • Requires a small vent
ADVANTAGES • Very good oxygen removal – less chemical use than with a Hotwell
DISADVANTAGES • Higher first cost than a Hotwell • Less stable than Hotwell under varying loads
33
Semi-Closed Receiver (SCR) Feedwater System
CHARACTERISTICS • Water maintained at 285 – 350 Degrees F • Feedwater pressure maintained at 50 – 125 PSIG • Requires a PRV and BPR • Requires a small vent • Economical with relatively high condensate at relatively high pressure
ADVANTAGES • up to 13% fuel savings compared to a Hotwell
DISADVANTAGES • Higher first cost than a Hotwell • More complex system to maintain than a Hotwell
Feedwater Treatment
• Hardness
• pH
• Oxygen
• Total Dissolved Solids
37
Hardness Control
• Calcium & Magnesium Form Scale
• Remove with a Water Softener
• Zero hardness for a Firetube and a Steam Generator
39
40
Feedwater pH Control
• Steam Generator 10.5 - 12.5
• Firetube - Internal 10.5 - 12.5
• Firetube - Feedwater 8.5 - 9.5
41
Oxygen Control
• Dissolved Gases Cause Corrosion & Pitting
• Pre-Heat Feedwater
• Add Sulfite
43
Total Dissolved Solids Control
• High Levels Cause:
• Carryover
• Foaming
• Blowdown TDS:
• Firetube - 3500 ppm
• Steam Generator - 8500 ppm Feedwater
- 30,000 to 40,000 ppm Blowdown
45
Clayton Feedwater Treatment
Objectives of Water Treatment:
• Prevention of scale and corrosion
• Maintain generator integrity and longevity
• Maintain efficiency and minimize downtime
• Prevent costly repairs due to coil failure
Water Testing Frequency:
• Daily or once a shift
Off-line Lay-up:
• Follow procedures for dry or wet shut down Water Treatment Log:
• Use Clayton AWARE program
46
Clayton Feedwater Chemicals
Clayton Coil Guard Technology
• Specifically formulated for use in a Clayton Steam Generator • Contain a passivating agent to minimize corrosion. • Single drum formulations are available for any operating condition. • Specific for high TDS conditions in a Clayton unit. • pH may be controlled without an additional product.
• Supported by Clayton’s AWARE program
Note: Feedwater treatment chemicals from third party suppliers may be suitable for Clayton Steam Generators. Consult your Clayton Sales Engineer for requirements .
